McAllen, Hidalgo, Reynosa, Monterrey clown story
A musical group of clowns, popular in Monterrey, was part of an
investigation Sunday when the groups ‘s tour bus was stopped at the U.S.-Mexico
border. The bus’s passengers of clowns and musicians is part of the Los
Payasonicos group and has a television program that airs in Monterrey, Mexico.
The names of bus’s passengers have not been released, according to the U.S.
Customs and Border Protection spokesman, Felix Garza. At 3:15 a.m. Monday, the
Los Payasonicos bus was searched and customs inspectors found 200 bricks of
cocaine wrapped in plastic in a secret compartment.
Earlier this year, on April 30, the group , Los Payasonicos musical clowns , performed at a Children’s Day
celebration in Reynosa’s baseball stadium.
They were nominated for a children’s music award Latin Grammy in 2005.
According to La Jornada, a leftist newspaper in Mexico City, the group may be
linked to The Osiel Cardenas drug cartel. Cardenas was arrested in March 2003 in
Matamoros and is thought to control most of the drug trade from his jail cell in
northeast Mexico.
The bus and co-driver were cleared of any involvement of Clown Tour Bus cocaine . No arrests were made.
But, what about the second bus???
When a similar tour bus with murals painted on the side, pulled into the border,
it was inspected also. 700 pounds of cocaine were found in it. Federal agents
said this bus belonged to the Mexican musical group Arnulfo Rey yAs. Latin

ICE does not know if there is a connection between the two buses. Figures vary
from $37 million to $5.6 million in the value of the seized drugs. Musical

The Payasónicos
